Nigerian Scammer’s Crypto Wallet Seized by Kansas Attorney General

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach has announced the successful recovery of an international crypto wallet, which will be used to reimburse a Kansas resident who fell victim to a cryptocurrency scam. The recovery was made possible through a lawsuit filed against Bimbo Toyin Akinyemi, a Nigerian national believed to be responsible for the fraud. The court ruled in favor of the victim, granting restitution and penalties, thus enabling the Attorney General’s office to seize the digital assets associated with the scam. This case marks a significant milestone for Kansas, as it represents one of the state’s first successful actions against an international internet scammer. The U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation provided assistance during the investigation. The seized wallet contained half a bitcoin valued at over $28,900, along with other digital currencies worth more than $4,000.
