Beware: TON ecosystem plagued by phishing activities

Warning: TON Ecosystem facing widespread phishing attacks

The growing popularity of Telegram’s The Open Network (TON) ecosystem has made it a prime target for malicious actors seeking to exploit users and access their private information and assets. Phishing attacks have seen a significant surge within the TON ecosystem, with phishing links circulating in Telegram groups and specifically targeting users’ TON wallets. SlowMist, a leading blockchain security firm, has recently highlighted this issue, urging users to remain vigilant.

According to SlowMist’s founder, Yu Xian (also known as Mr. Cos), the Telegram ecosystem’s openness has allowed phishing links and bot forms to spread freely through message groups and deceptive methods like airdrops. This has resulted in numerous TON wallet breaches. Hackers are particularly interested in non-fungible tokens (NFTs), specifically Anonymous Telegram Numbers, which function similarly to mobile phone numbers and are commonly used to create Telegram accounts. Losing control of these tokens could potentially lead to losing access to the corresponding Telegram accounts, unless users have enabled Two-Step Verification.

While these phishing attacks pose a significant threat, the TON ecosystem is expanding further. Telegram recently introduced Telegram Stars, an in-app digital currency designed to facilitate the purchase of digital goods and services within the TON ecosystem and across all mini-apps on Telegram. Additionally, Telegram partnered with Tether (USDT) to promote the adoption of cryptocurrency on their messaging platform. As part of this initiative, Tether launched a stablecoin on the TON blockchain. With the growing presence of these new digital assets, users must exercise caution and remain vigilant to ensure the security of their investments.

Caution is also necessary when dealing with Toncoin, the original token of the TON ecosystem. Currently priced at $7.23, Toncoin has experienced a 7.80% decline in the past week but has seen a promising 18.63% increase this month. As the TON ecosystem continues to expand, users must be aware of the potential risks and take appropriate measures to protect their assets and information.
