Central Bank of Georgia chooses Ripple as a partner to launch digital lari

The National Bank of Georgia announced the completion of the competitive selection among nine technology companies applying for the role of the Central Bank’s partner in the project to develop and launch the state digital currency.

“We have selected Ripple as the official technology partner for Digital Lari (GEL) after thoroughly analyzing the proposals of all participants in the competitive list,” assured Natia Turnava, First Vice President of the National Bank.

Ripple’s CBDC platform is characterized by its ability to provide central banks, financial institutions and governments with comprehensive solutions, the NBG explains the choice. It was taken into account that the Ripple team has expertise in building CBDC platforms and is already involved in five pilot programs with governments and central banks in several countries.

Earlier, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse told
to reporters that the company does not support cryptocurrency maximalism and recognizes the merits of all digital assets.
