CoinStats Security Incident Under Investigation to Find Lost $2 Million

CoinStats, a cryptocurrency tracking platform, is currently investigating a security incident that resulted in the loss of $2 million. The company is working with law enforcement to track the stolen funds and support affected users. It is believed that the attack, which occurred on June 22, may have been orchestrated by North Korean threat actors.

CoinStats CEO, Narek Gevorgyan, shared that nearly 1,600 wallets were compromised in the incident, representing around 1% of all users. The breach was carried out through a phishing scheme that targeted CoinStats’ iOS users. The hackers sent fraudulent notifications promising rewards and redirected users to a malicious website.

While efforts are underway to address the situation, CoinStats has not yet determined if it will take responsibility for the incident and compensate affected users. Gevorgyan explained that the company needs more time to investigate and fully understand the extent of the security breach.

As the investigation continues, CoinStats is actively engaging with the Security Alliance and law enforcement agencies across multiple jurisdictions to develop plans for victim support. In the meantime, the company advises users to conduct their own research and exercise caution when making any investment decisions.
