Spotify Removes AI-Generated Songs from Boomy Due to Fraud and Copyright Infringement Concerns

  • These are creations of popular startup Boomy
  • The chatbot is suspected of faking auditions and other sins

Streaming service Spotify deleted tens of thousands of songs written by artificial intelligence. Mainly products of the music startup Boomy.

However, in practice, the figure is not that big – only 7% of all Boomy songs were banned.

Fraudsters

According to representatives of Spotify, the reason for the ban was suspicious activity on the service.

They believe that the neural network was artificially inflating the auditions. The bot impersonated real people and increased the number of broadcasts of some tracks.

Spotify also receives many complaints about fraud and copyright infringement from competitors.

The startup Boomy began two years ago. The point is that the tracks here are created jointly by humans and a neural network.

The user can select a favorite style or descriptor (e.g., rain sound, sea sound, rap beats, etc.). And then the AI generates a track based on the queries.

The resulting song can be uploaded to a streaming service and receive royalties for it. Boomy customers have generated more than 14 million tracks over the course of their work.

The other day, Universal Music announced a fight against neural networks. They are asking Spotify and Apple Music to ban chatbots from accessing their songs.

According to the label’s position, artificial intelligence violates copyright by using someone else’s creations without permission.

By the way, ChatGPT recently matched 12 cryptocurrencies to the signs of the zodiac.
