Nvidia CTO Believes Cryptocurrencies Are Useless for Society

According to the CTO of Nvidia, Michael Kagan, cryptocurrencies offer no useful contributions to society, despite the company continuing to sell its processors to miners.

Kagan believes that a chat bot with artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, would be far more beneficial than cryptocurrency mining.

Kagan stated in an interview with The Guardian that Nvidia was the best at processing the cryptographic data needed for mining, but ultimately, it does not add anything useful to society.

However, AI has the potential to bring about significant changes that could benefit humanity. Despite this, people still engage in activities such as cryptocurrency mining, and the company continues to profit from it.

In 2021, Nvidia released software to limit the use of its video cards for ether mining, but programmers quickly found a way around these restrictions.

In October 2022, Nvidia decided to remove the limits from new drivers due to high demand for video accelerators caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a solution, the company started releasing video cards with a prefix LHR that were programmatically limited in hashrate for cryptocurrency mining.
