Google searches for 'AI' surpass Bitcoin this year

The introduction of ChatGPT in November resulted in a gradual increase in Google searches for “AI,” surpassing searches for cryptocurrency-related terms.

Google Trends data reveals that users were more interested in searching for artificial intelligence (AI) rather than “Bitcoin” or “cryptocurrency” this year.

While search interest for “Bitcoin” and sometimes “crypto” had been higher than searches for “AI” since 2020, Google data shows a shift in this trend starting around August 2022.

This year, Google searches for “AI” have surpassed those for Bitcoin globally, with a current ranking of 91 on Google Trends compared to Bitcoin’s rank of 22. Google ranks search queries from 0 to 100 based on their share of total search queries across all topics.

According to Google Trends, the countries with the highest interest in Bitcoin are El Salvador, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Switzerland.

On the other hand, significant developments in the field of artificial intelligence have attracted particular interest from users in Vietnam, China, the Philippines, and Myanmar.

This trend was noticed and highlighted by a user named Autism Capital (previously known as Crypto X) in a post on December 26th.

One comment on the post suggested that the difference in search volume might be because Bitcoin and cryptocurrency gained popularity earlier than AI, with people actively seeking information on cryptocurrency in previous years.

In July, AI also became the top search engine, according to an analysis of cryptocurrency data aggregator CoinGecko.
