Bundestag worried about ‘global surveillance’ of people due to Worldcoin biometrics collection

  • A woman said iris scanning technology causes a lot of fear.

A spokeswoman for the German political party Alternative for Germany (AfD), Christina Baum, who is a member of the Bundestag, has spoken negatively about Worldcoin’s iris scanning operations.

“The eye scanner was not developed for medical purposes, but serves to collect biometric data. These devices are used exclusively for global monitoring of individuals,” Baum said.

She added that all of an individual’s activities can be tracked at any time – shopping, exercise, health status, and more.

“The huge demand for such a worldwide identifier is due only to an incomplete understanding of the risks of misuse. This concept causes great fear,” the political party member said.

Remember, the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision launched an investigation into Worldcoin in late July.

Since its launch on July 24, the Worldcoin project has faced investigations in Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Kenya.
