Coin Gate Scandal Lawmaker ‘to Rejoin South Korea’s Biggest Political Party’

The lawmaker at the center of South Korea’s “Coin Gate” scandal is set to rejoin the Democratic Party, the largest political party in the National Assembly. Kim Nam-guk, who was previously a member of the Democratic Alliance for Democracy Party, will become a Democratic Party member again in early May. This move comes after the Democratic Alliance for Democracy decided to merge with the Democratic Party, giving them a large majority in the Assembly. However, Kim’s return to the party has sparked controversy due to allegations that he sold cryptoassets while serving on a crypto regulations-making committee. The scandal caused him to be ostracized from the Democratic Party last year, and he joined the alliance instead. The merger process is expected to be completed before May, pending approval from the National Election Commission.
