Former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne has joined Coinbase’s Global Advisory Board, according to CPO Faryar Shirzad’s confirmation.

George Osborne served as the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the UK from 2010 to 2016, and subsequently held positions in several major financial firms. In 2021, he became a partner at investment bank Robey Warshaw LLP.

In response to his appointment, George Osborne stated in an interview with The Guardian:

The Global Advisory Council consists mainly of American politicians and was established by Coinbase in May 2023.

Interestingly, the company faced criticism from Senator Elizabeth Warren, who accused Coinbase of engaging in “personnel poaching” to evade existing regulations.
