Israel confiscated “millions of dollars” in cryptocurrency from Iranian militants and the Hezbollah group

The Israeli government confiscated “millions of dollars” from cryptocurrency accounts linked to the paramilitary Shiite group Hezbollah. The organization supports the creation of an Islamic state in Lebanon and has Iran’s support.

The arrest was announced by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, cited by the AP.. It was he who ordered the confiscation of the assets.

The exact amount seized from the cryptocurrency accounts is unknown. But according to the Secretary of Defense, it was a major action. It was also the first action taken by the Israeli authorities against Hezbollah (recognized as a terrorist group in the U.S. and several other countries).

The operation was an interagency one, involving the Mossad unit and military intelligence.. The Defense Ministry clarified that the cryptocurrency was used to fund the activities of the group, but its origin is unknown.We have previously covered a similar action by the Israeli authorities.
