Kenyan police raided Worldcoin’s offices

Kenyan police raided Worldcoin’s Nairobi office and seized company documents, sending them to the country’s Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) headquarters for further verification.

Police spokesperson Immaculate Kassait said that Worldcoin developer Worldcoin Tools for Humanity did not disclose its true intentions during the registration process. The Kenya Capital Markets Authority (CMA) is concerned about the continued registration of new users of the project, and has notified Kenyans that Worldcoin is not regulated in the country.

The company insists that no user data is stored and cannot get into the network. However, experts fear that sensitive data obtained from scanning a person’s iris could fall into the wrong hands. Earlier, the government suspended Worldcoin’s operations in Kenya, citing security concerns.

Worldcoin says it chose Kenya to launch the platform because of the fast-growing tech space in the country – more than four million Kenyans already use the cryptocurrency. Worldcoin plans to expand by enabling governments and companies to use its iris scanning and identity verification technology.
