Meta copied Threads from Twitter. The company is now facing a lawsuit

  • Meta denies accusations of industrial espionage
  • But Musk and Twitter are sure of it
  • Allegedly Meta brought former employees of the holding company to develop new software
  • Twitter demands to stop stealing and using others’ intellectual property
  • Any lawsuit awaits Meta

From Meta yesterday, July 6, presentation of Threads project was held. It’s a new social network that is already being called the replacement for Twitter. But the competition is not going to put up with it.

What’s interesting is that Twitter sent a notice of claim preparation as early as July 5, one day before the app’s release.. This was reported by CNN, citing its source.

The letter is addressed to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In it, legal counsel Alex Spiro claimed that the company misappropriated Twitter’s work and other trade secrets. Moreover, she acted deliberately.

Musk himself also commented on the news. On his Twitter page, he stated the following:

“Competition is fine, but fraud is not.”</nbsp;

The letter indicates that Meta specifically hired, and then brought in people from Twitter to work on Threads. And they took advantage of their position and appropriated “electronic devices” and documentation with internal information and work.

Meta employee Andy Stone refuted Twitter’s accusations by posting the following on Threads:

“This is just ridiculous.. There is no one on the Threads team who has worked for Twitter in the past.”

It is clear that Twitter does see Threads as a direct competitor. At the release stage, the project received a high response from users. Although there are already alternatives in the form of Bluesky and Mastodon, the Meta project is from another “weight category”.
