MistTrack: North Korean hackers are behind the Atomic Wallet, CoinsPad and Alphapo hacks

North Korean hacker group Lazarus is almost certainly behind the hacks of several platforms at once – Atomic Wallet, CoinsPad and Alphapo. This is reported by analysts at MistTrack.

“These incidents are shrouded in mystery, but there is a possibility that Lazarus may be behind them,” company officials announced.

CoinsPaid, the payment service that was hacked the day before, recently resumed operations after the hacker attack. Analysts believe the amount stolen could be as much as $37 million. Representatives of the platform said the hack affected the availability of the service, but customer funds were not affected.

“Lazarus probably expected the attack on CoinsPaid to be more successful. In response to the hack, the company’s team of experts worked tirelessly to harden systems and minimize the impact of the hack. Security measures and procedures have enabled the platform to prevent a larger loss of funds,” the service’s operators said in a statement.

Earlier it became known that attackers withdrew at least $31 million worth of BTC, ETH and TRX from the hot wallets of crypto platform Alphapo. Alphapo is a payment platform that offers instant transactions with over 30 digital assets. The company is the crypto gateway for a number of gaming platforms including HypeDrop, Ignition and Bovada. Following the incident, HypeDrop stopped processing cryptocurrency transactions.

The largest Lazarus-related incident in recent times is the Atomic Wallet hack. Losses from the hack totaled more than $100 million. Most of the funds were sent to cryptomixer Sinbad. The platform has previously been used to launder crypto assets stolen by a hacking group close to the DPRK. Elliptic analysts noted that the funds were exchanged for bitcoins.
