Solana Client Developer Jito Announces End of ‘Mempool’ Function

Solana Client Developer Jito abruptly announced the end of its mempool function earlier today, a decision that comes after a series of costly sandwich attacks on traders. The mempool function, which is responsible for holding on-chain transactions before they are added to the blockchain, was deemed to be vulnerable to exploitation by trading bots. Jito Labs, the developer behind the popular Solana client alternative, made the announcement on Twitter, stating that the mempool function will be taken offline tonight. This decision marks a significant change in direction for Jito, as just two weeks ago, they lifted the ban on front-running, considering the restriction to be unenforceable. Front-running refers to the practice of sandwich attacks, wherein trading bots exploit transactions in the mempool to profit before they are executed. Jito, which manages an alternative client for Solana blockchain transactions, is widely used by validators, with over half of them relying on the platform. No comment has been provided by Jito representatives regarding this recent development.
