Stellar’s Foundation Supports Delay of Smart-Contracts Upgrade After Bug Found

Stellar’s Foundation has announced its support for the delay of the smart-contracts upgrade on the Stellar blockchain after a bug was discovered. The bug was found in the Stellar Core v20.1.0 software, and while it was considered to pose little risk, feedback from the developer community prompted the foundation to reconsider the upgrade’s target date of January 30. The foundation plans to temporarily disable its validators to prevent them from voting in favor of the upgrade, but other validators could still proceed with the upgrade if they choose to do so. A fix for the bug is expected to be available within the next two weeks, and if the upgrade is postponed, a future vote date will be determined. Stellar, which was created as a fork of the Ripple protocol in 2014, aims to add Ethereum-style programmability with this upgrade. Traders are now curious about the potential impact on the price and popularity of Stellar’s native XLM tokens.
