The developers of Ordinals released an update to solve the problem of “cursed” inscriptions

  • The patch will put more than 70,000 additional Ordinals into circulation
  • Previously they were invalid due to incorrect use of transaction codes
  • The sites where Ordinals are indexed are expected to update in the coming days

The new Ordinals protocol version 0.6.0 was released Sunday, June 4.. The patch aims to solve the problem of invalid and unrecognized inscriptions, which number over 71,000.

“A new version of ord (0.6.0) has just been released, which takes the first steps in recognizing a large number of types of inscriptions (cursed inscriptions).. Additionally, you can now pass RPC credentials through command line flags, configurations, or environment variables,” said team member “raph”.

The actual update can be found here. Note that “cursed” refers to those inscriptions that were created by improper, intentional or not, use of transaction codes. Which made them invalid and unrecognizable as a result.

Before that, in April, protocol creator Casey Rodarmore took an interest in the problem. The solution was simple enough, but effective enough. The update sets a new block activation height for different types of lettering, making most of them normally readable.

As soon as the sites that index “ordinals” are updated to the new version, users will be able to trade them. This will additionally introduce more than 70,000 tokens into the turnover.
