TikTok added text message posting feature

  • TikTok has added a text publishing feature. Users have access to posts of up to 1000 characters.
  • Hashtags, geolocation, music can be added to the post. This makes the social network stand out among its closest competitors, experts say.

The social network TikTok has introduced the ability to publish text messages. The new feature is designed to “empower” creators when creating and promoting content, according to the project’s administration.

“The feature is a new format for creating text content that empowers creators to share their ideas and express their creativity,” the announcement reads.

To create a post with text, you need to:

  1. Go to the Camera tab;
  2. select the Text option;
  3. type the post, choose its format and publish.

As you can see from the example, users can change the font, text color, add emoticons, hashtags:

Unlike Threads and Twitter, TikTok allows you to attach your location as well as music to a text post, Cointelegraph noted. That could be a serious competitive advantage, the publication said.

“While Threads struggles with spam, missing hashtags, broadcasts and algorithm bugs, TikTok has simply added another form of content to an existing user experience that millions of people are already used to,” the Vulcan Post stated.

The publication also compared TikTok to Instagram. But while the former makes text-based publishing look organic, the latter platform offers only a “meager analog,” the magazine emphasized.

The Threads social network launched in early July. The project caused a stir among users, but faced the problem of fake accounts, due to which the platform imposed restrictions on activity.

Twitter, in turn, threatened Meta with a lawsuit for plagiarism. Now the social network is in the process of rebranding itself. As a reminder, billionaire Ilon Musk wants to turn the platform into an “app for everything.”
