Two mining farms discovered in the Irkutsk Regional Psychiatric Hospital

The prosecutor's office of the Irkutsk region, together with the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the police, discovered two illegal mining farms in the regional mental hospital. The equipment was located in the attic of a medical institution in the village of Sosnovy Bor.

The scale of “attic mining” was not too large – one farm consisted of 8 ASIC miners, and 5 devices worked as part of another. However, they were located above the premises where patients are kept.. Given the fire hazard of illegal mining, such activity could lead to tragedy.. At the same time, the head doctor of the district mental hospital stated that he was not involved in the placement of the equipment.

“It was established that two mining farms for 13 pieces of equipment connected to the hospital’s electrical networks above the medical buildings were illegally located in the attic of a medical institution in the Irkutsk region. This created the risk of an emergency and causing harm to patients, ”the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.

At the moment, miners are facing a case of an administrative offense under Art.. 20.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (violation of fire safety requirements). Law enforcement agencies also launched an audit to “assess the damage that the shadow business caused during the illegal consumption of electricity.”

Earlier, an underground miner from Irkutsk was accused of stealing energy in the amount of 1.6 million rubles. However, the scale was much larger – the entrepreneur illegally connected 130 devices to the power grid.
