Uber names terms for accepting bitcoin payments

Uber’s CEO answered in the affirmative when asked if it was possible to accept the world’s first cryptocurrency as payment for the service.

However, there is a condition, Dara Khosrowashahi said – bitcoin must “become more environmentally friendly and exchange costs must come down”.

The CEO of the world’s most successful cab aggregator has emphasized the value of cryptocurrencies, especially bitcoins, as savings vehicles. However, they all have difficulties as a means for everyday transactions – due to high costs and environmental concerns.

Uber’s CEO reiterated the company’s commitment to crypto assets, but – in the future when the complexities have been resolved.

Khosrowshahi has previously said that at some point Uber will definitely start accepting cryptocurrencies to pay for rides. Cab hailing, carsharing and delivery services continue to grow, and as the cryptocurrency industry evolves companies will need to accept these assets to pay for rides.

In 2016, Uber’s servers were breached and hackers managed to steal the data of 57 million users of the app. At the instigation of Uber’s former security chief, the hackers were paid $100,000 in BTC and the hack itself was hidden.
