US Lawmaker Spotlights Crypto Bills Approved by House Committee This Year

US Congressman Tom Emmer has highlighted a number of crypto bills that were approved by the House Committee on Financial Services this year. One of these bills includes an appropriations amendment that prevents the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from using taxpayer funds on its “abusive crypto enforcement tirade” until Congress gives the SEC jurisdiction over the crypto industry. Congressman Emmer, a Republican from Minnesota, outlined the achievements of the committee in 2023 on social media platform X, stating that they have passed more legislation this year compared to previous years to support capital markets, promote innovation, and hold regulators accountable. He specifically mentioned the passage of the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act, which streamlines money transmission regulations in the digital asset space, and the inclusion of his Securities Clarity Act in the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act, which provides clarity on tokens not automatically being considered securities. In addition, his CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act, aimed at defending against government surveillance, also received committee approval. Congressman Emmer concluded by expressing his intent to continue pushing these measures forward in the House in 2024.
