Alma-Ata resident fined for exchanging cryptocurrencies

The Financial Monitoring Agency of Kazakhstan reported that a certain individual entrepreneur from the largest city of the republic from 2019 to 2022 was engaged in the exchange of cryptocurrencies for fiat money for commissions.

The total income of the entrepreneur was more than 94 million tenge (about 17 million rubles). At the same time in Kazakhstan legalized mining of cryptocurrencies and activities of cryptocurrency exchanges. However, it is prohibited to engage in the exchange of digital assets without a license.

“A resident of Alma-Ata carried out illegal turnover of unsecured digital assets with the extraction of income on a large scale. The amount of money received on the Vipanse cryptocurrency wallet amounted to almost $693,000, or about 310 million tenge,” reads the official statement of the AFM of Kazakhstan.

It was recently reported that four four residents of Zhezkazgan, Almaty and Astana organized a cryptocurrency pyramid MetaGo and defrauded over 600 Kazakhstanis.
