McDonalds will celebrate the 40th anniversary of nuggets in the SandBox meta universe

The Hong Kong branch of McDonalds decided to celebrate Chicken McNuggets’ 40th anniversary at The Sandbox. In the meta-universe, the nuggets will be animated and you’ll be able to take selfies with them and talk to them.

Chicken McNugget first went on sale worldwide in 1983.

McDonald’s Hong Kong will offer Sandbox users to play McNuggets-themed mini-games in a virtual space. The nuggets will turn into virtual characters in the game, which you can talk to, take selfies with, and learn more about the history of the famous dish.

Players receive rewards for completing quests, including SAND tokens, the native cryptocurrency of the Sandbox ecosystem.

Access to the meta-universe themed site will continue through August 28.

The McNuggets Land meta universe project in Hong Kong is not the first time McDonalds has used blockchain technology in its advertising efforts. The firm’s branches in the US and China were launching NFT collections at the end of 2021 launching in late 2021.

The Sandbox is a gaming meta-universe based on the Etherium blockchain. Partners in the meta universe include Adidas, Warner Music Group and Snoop Dogg. 

Recently, German confectionery company Haribo Holding, known for its gummy bears, filed an application to register a trademark related to the NFT and meta-universes. And Papa Johns said it will start selling NFTs in the OneRare culinary meta-universe
