A resident of the Irkutsk region lost 2 million rubles when trying to invest in cryptocurrencies

Another story about an unsuccessful attempt to make money on cryptocurrencies came from the Siberian city of Usolye-Sibirskoe. A 58-year-old resident of the city gave 2 million rubles to scammers from a “cryptobroker” in two weeks.

According to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Irkutsk Region, a locksmith from Usolye-Sibirsky decided to increase his savings by investing in cryptocurrencies.. He found an ad on the Internet and left a request on the site. Soon, the “manager” of the investment company called him and promised a stable income on cryptocurrencies.. Of course, this required significant investments, and the victim transferred 2 million rubles to the “investment” platform. After that, the “manager” stopped communicating and the 58-year-old man contacted the police.

“In conditions of low financial literacy of the population, it becomes easier for attackers to deceive their victims. Their schemes become more sophisticated every year.. Residents of the Irkutsk region, desiring a fabulous bonus in the form of high percentages of “quick” and “easy” earnings, lost more than 200 million rubles over the past year,” the statement of law enforcement agencies emphasizes.

The police are now investigating and establishing all the details of the fraud.. Representatives of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Irkutsk Region emphasized that before investing, it is necessary to carefully check the documents of companies for licenses and registrations.

Recently, Europol immediately detained 200 people involved in cryptocurrency fraud. The criminals operated in several European countries and created a large scheme for “cryptocurrency investments”. Call centers were set up, many websites were launched, and advertising on social networks was paid for.
