  • The bank purchased spot Bitcoin ETFs from BlackRock and Grayscale Investments, totaling $1.25 million.

One of the world’s largest depository banks, BNY Mellon, has invested in spot Bitcoin ETFs from BlackRock and Grayscale Investments. This information comes from the Form 13F that the bank submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

According to the document, the bank acquired the following amounts of shares in these funds:

  • $806,091 of iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) from BlackRock
  • $448,989 of Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF (GBTC) from Grayscale Investments

BNY Mellon has not provided any comments on the matter at the time of this publication.

It is worth noting that BNY Mellon has shown interest in the cryptocurrency sector on multiple occasions.

For instance, during the banking crisis in the United States in the spring of 2023, BNY Mellon was one of the custodians where Circle placed its USDC reserve.

We previously reported that the spot Bitcoin ETF sector has been experiencing significant capital outflows. Furthermore, on April 25, 2024, no funds were recorded inflowing into IBIT for the second consecutive day.
