Celestia’s Blobstream goes live on Arbitrum Orbit

Celestia, the innovative modular blockchain network, has announced the launch of its data availability solution, Blobstream, on Arbitrum Orbit. This implementation allows layer 2 (L2) and layer 3 (L3) networks on the Arbitrum platform to utilize Blobstream for improved scalability and cost-efficient operations.

Blobstream, developed by Celestia in collaboration with Succinct, utilizes zero-knowledge proof to efficiently authenticate blockchain information. This novel approach aims to tackle the data availability challenges faced by builders while developing products on Ethereum. These challenges often result in increased costs or the need to migrate to alternative layer 1 networks.

Celestia states that L2 and L3 networks leveraging Arbitrum Orbit can now implement Celestia’s light client for data availability sampling (DAS). This method allows for the validation of blockchain data availability without the requirement to download the entire dataset, reducing storage expenses and transaction fees.

Celestia also claims that this new approach eliminates the necessity for projects to establish a data availability committee, which was previously required for storing and supplying transaction data upon request.

Prior to this deployment, Celestia had already introduced Blobstream to two other prominent Ethereum L2 networks, Starknet and Base, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to improving the Ethereum ecosystem’s infrastructure.
