Coinbase has named a release date for the public version of the Base mainnet

  • Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has announced the launch of a bridge and public version of the Base mainnet.
  • Before this, the blockchain was exclusively available to developers. To celebrate, the company is throwing a series of events.

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase said the public version of the Base mainnet will be released on Aug. 9, 2023. Meanwhile, users already have access to a bridge between the blockchain and Ethereum space.

In honor of the mainnet launch, the company has prepared a series of Onchain Summer events. The event will feature more than 50 partners, including digital artists, other platforms and marketplaces.

NFT support will also be available online starting Aug. 9, including commemorative. To participate in most of the offered activities, you need to fund a wallet that supports the blockchain.

Reminder, Base is an L2 shell on top of Ethereum developed on the OP stack. The project is positioned to maximize easy access to the DeFi space.

Coinbase introduced a developer version of the mainnet in mid-July 2023. The network has gained support for the LayerZero protocol. The Aave community is also considering integration.

By the end of July, Base’s daily transaction volume had passed 550,000. This came amid a boom in the popularity of memcoins.
