Crypto App Shakepay Reveals Data Breach Affecting a ‘Small Number’ of Customers

Crypto platform Shakepay has announced a data breach that affected a limited number of its customers. The breach, which occurred between March and December 2023, involved unauthorized access to personal information but did not impact any bank accounts, crypto wallets, or customer login credentials. Shakepay’s security team promptly responded to the breach, removing the compromised device from their network. The breach exposed potentially sensitive data, including names, emails, addresses, birth dates, phone numbers, occupations, trusted contacts, account balances, and transaction history. In response, Shakepay has advised affected customers to enhance their account security measures, such as enabling two-factor authentication and using unique and strong passwords. They have also implemented additional security measures and are providing two years of free credit monitoring to help mitigate the risk of identity theft. Shakepay is actively collaborating with law enforcement and regulatory authorities to investigate the breach and prevent future incidents. The company emphasizes its commitment to customer trust and the protection of personal information.
