Cryptojacking Attacks

Cryptojacking is a type of cybercrime that involves attackers illegally using people’s devices (computers, smartphones or tablets) to mine cryptocurrency.

SonicWall Vice President Spencer Starkey told Decrypt that the main signs of cryptojacking are slow devices and high electricity bills. He added:

“Cryptojackers try to operate stealthily so that their activities are considered a ‘victimless crime’ compared to other malware such as ransomware or banking Trojans.”

SonicWall President and CEO Bob Vankirk said the attackers are targeting devices belonging to schools, government, authorities or simply retail organizations.

Remember, in the second quarter of 2023, about $204 million was lost to hacks and fraud in decentralized finance.
