Developers are talking about changing the Bitcoin code again. Is this a red line?

  • BRC-20 and Ordinals format debated online
  • They want to ban it so as not to clog the Bitcoin network
  • But many are against such a hardfork

A record number of BRC-20 tokens created through the Ordinals protocol clogged the Bitcoin network and increased fees to exorbitant amounts. So the developers began to gather for a debate to resolve the issue. They held their first meeting in May, and another one the other day.

Perspectives on this issue were divided.. The most determined ones suggest drastic measures – to rewrite the code and block the BRC-20 standard.

In the comments, users are mostly critical of this idea. Because it contradicts the main principle of crypto – freedom.

“Why can anyone change the btc code? Isn’t that a big red flag?”

Somebody is not against such an idea and suggests that the community decide for itself whether or not to accept the new fork.

“You can change bitcoin code. Improve it, and then see if the nodes/mainers will accept your changes.”

In the meantime, the Bitcoin Ordinals project continues to evolve. Last week they introduced the BRC-721E standard. This is a bridge to transfer NFT from Ethereum to the Bitcoin network.

By the way, the number of Bitcoin Ordinals reached 10 million entries the other day.
