Ethereum Dencun Upgrade Is Live, This Is What Developers Plotting Next

Ethereum’s recent Dencun Upgrade has been successfully implemented, generating excitement within the community. With 15,000 ETH already moved, developers are now looking ahead and considering whether to include MaxEB in the Electra upgrade.

The development team is currently evaluating additional features that could be incorporated into the upgrade. A final decision is expected within the next one to four weeks. Christine Kim, a crypto researcher, has highlighted two parallel initiatives that are being pursued alongside the Electra upgrade.

The first initiative, PeerDAS, aims to enhance Ethereum’s data availability capacity in a secure manner. This is crucial for scalability and network performance. The second initiative focuses on developing lightweight client solutions, allowing more users to access Ethereum with minimal hardware requirements and reduced reliance on third-party services.

While the Electra upgrade remains the primary focus for developers due to its immediate impact on the network, both PeerDAS and light client development are considered high-priority items. However, the complexity of the Electra upgrade may divert some resources away from these parallel efforts. Kim calls on the Ethereum community to hold developers accountable for advancing these initiatives alongside the Electra upgrade.

Despite MaxEB initially receiving more attention, Kim emphasizes the long-term importance of PeerDAS and light client development for the growth and development of the Ethereum network. Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, will be a keynote speaker at the ongoing ETHTaipei 2024 annual Ethereum developer conference and hackathon. At the conference, Buterin will participate in a panel to assess advancements in scaling Ethereum alongside leaders of Layer-2 networks.

As developers strategize for the future, analysts express concerns about ETH’s recent dip and the potential for it to drop below the $1,850 mark. These sentiments are contributing to additional downward momentum and a potentially gloomy outlook for the near future of the asset.
