Google Updates Policy on Crypto Trusts

Denis Goncharenko

Google has made yet another important update to its cryptocurrency advertising policy, specifically targeting the advertising of trusts. Trusts refer to financial products that facilitate the trading of shares in pools of digital currencies. This policy update will come into effect on January 29, 2024, and requires advertisers offering trust services in the US to meet certain requirements and obtain approval from Google before being allowed to advertise on its platform.

The primary objective of this policy update is to provide clarity on the advertising requirements for cryptocurrency trusts, as they have different characteristics compared to cryptocurrency exchanges or wallets. All the changes will be implemented on January 29th to ensure strict compliance.

Google emphasized the importance of advertisers adhering to local laws in the regions where their ads are targeted. This policy applies to all accounts advertising these trust products globally. Additionally, Google stated that advertisers who violate the policy will be given a warning at least seven days before any action is taken to restrict their advertising activities.

It is worth noting that Google initially banned all cryptocurrency-related advertising in 2018. However, in 2019, they revised the policy to allow regulated cryptocurrency exchanges to advertise their services in the United States and Japan.
