JPMorgan Chase Doing Nothing After $10,000 Exits Customer’s Account in Sophisticated Scam: Report

JPMorgan Chase Accused of Failing to Take Action Following $10,000 Theft from Customer’s Account: Report

JPMorgan Chase is facing criticism after allegedly refusing to rectify or investigate the unauthorized withdrawal of $10,000 from a customer’s primary checking account. According to reports from a CBS-affiliated news station, an Arizona resident named Cate Dutler claimed that a check she sent to a relative in Chicago went missing. However, rather than addressing the issue, the bank found that the check had been intercepted, altered, and cashed by a scammer who changed the payee’s name to “Unprecedented Eats.”

Dutler promptly filed an altered check claim within the designated one-year timeframe. Despite this, Chase responded by asserting that the check she submitted was counterfeit and that the 65-day window for reporting such fraud had expired. Dutler expressed frustration at the bank’s inaction, stating, “Chase Bank is doing nothing. And they’re telling me that it’s because I missed the deadline.”

Over several months, Chase supposedly led Dutler to believe that they were investigating the incident and awaiting a response from TD Bank, where the altered check had been cashed. However, it has now come to light that Chase never contacted TD Bank in the first place, leaving Dutler dissatisfied with the closure of the case. She remarked, “It’s a crime. It was fraud. And Chase has done nothing.”

Despite attempts by WTOC, the news station, to track down the fraudulent company, “Unprecedented Eats,” their efforts have been unsuccessful so far. As the matter remains unresolved, JPMorgan Chase now faces scrutiny and questions regarding their handling of the situation.
