Media: Threads has lost about half of its users

  • The media has accessed the audio of Meta’s corporate management meeting.
  • It discussed the drop in activity in the Threads app. Top management suggested the problem could be solved with “hooks.”
  • The company also plans to add cross-platform and new features, according to the record.

Meta executives said the number of active users on the Threads app has roughly halved from the first few days after launch. This was reported by Reuters, citing an audio recording of the corporate meeting.

The publication claims that CEO Mark Zuckerberg attended the meeting. He said audience retention on the app is “far from ideal.”

“Obviously, if you have 100 million people signed up, at least half of them should stay on the platform.”

The CEO said such a decline is “within the norm,” but he also expects the situation to improve. Zuckerberg plans to attract and retain users with new features.

These include, according to the publication, the ability to share photo and video content. Meta’s chief product officer Chris Kok added that the company is working on “hooks” to popularize Threads in the firm’s other products, such as Instagram.

The app was introduced in early July 2023. The project generated excitement among audiences, but almost immediately the platform had a problem with a large number of fake accounts.

Later, X Corp. parent company of social network Twitter accused Meta of plagiarism. Zuckerberg’s firm is facing a lawsuit. Also recall that the TikTok app now has the ability to publish text messages. According to experts, this is a powerful competitive advantage in the battle for the market.
