OpenAI Unveils AI Text-to-Video but Could ‘Sora’ Be Used for Crypto Scams?

Artificial intelligence firm OpenAI has introduced its latest product, Sora, a text-to-video model. However, as advancements in AI have been exploited by scammers, there are concerns about the potential for Sora to be misused in the realm of cryptocurrencies. Sora can generate videos up to 60 seconds long, featuring intricate scenes, dynamic camera movement, and emotionally expressive characters. OpenAI stated that it is taking precautions by working with experts to test the model’s safety. While Sora has various legitimate applications, it might also be leveraged by crypto scammers to create deepfakes imitating individuals and companies to promote fraudulent projects. With its ability to produce realistic synthetic videos and audio, Sora could facilitate fake celebrity endorsements and the rapid dissemination of scam content on social media platforms. OpenAI acknowledges that, despite their efforts, they cannot anticipate all potential uses or abuses of their technology.
