Pseudonymous AI game developer Dav has recreated the popular dungeon crawler “Diablo III” in the NFT game Nifty Island. As a longtime fan of the Diablo franchise, Dav was drawn to Nifty Island for its ability to continuously expand creations. Nifty Island recently launched its open beta with a play-to-airdrop campaign to attract players. Dav explained that creating a homage to Diablo III allowed him to tap into nostalgia and provide enjoyment for others. In addition to Nifty Island, Dav is also working on a still-in-development story called “Into Auris” that utilizes artificial intelligence tools for character and landscape designs.
Nifty Island is a 3D social game that allows players to design islands, complete quests, and earn NFT rewards. The game offers cross-chain integration with Ethereum, Polygon, and Base. Nifty Island has gained popularity for its expansive maps, free content, and upcoming airdrop. Dav plans to create a unique island leveraging Nifty Island’s tools and stock images, featuring an island footrace, a Capture the Flag game in the main town square, and a Spy Hunt feature for non-PvP players.
Recreating the world of Diablo III on Nifty Island took Dav over 20 hours to complete. However, he is nearing completion of the project and expects to have it mostly done by the end of the weekend. While copyright and intellectual property are sensitive topics, Dav emphasized that his project is fan-created art inspired by Diablo III rather than a direct copy of Blizzard’s assets.
