The “Bedrock” update has been successfully deployed on the Optimism network

  • The upgrade aims to end “EVM equivalence” and usher in an era of “Ethereum compatibility.”
  • The update will allow developers to run their L2 networks on top of Optimism
  • The fork will also significantly reduce transaction costs

The “Bedrock” update took place on the Optimism network yesterday, June 6, between 19:00 and 22:00 (Kiev time). The upgrade was successful. A few hours later, the service resumed normal operation.

The key feature of Bedrock is the optimization of the technology stack for modularity. In practice, this means developers will be able to run their L2 shells on top of Optimism.

The upgrade also aims to make the network as compatible as possible with Ethereum. In the final version, the two clients are separated by 2,000 lines of code, no more.

The developers themselves describe Bedrock as the beginning of an era of “Ethereum compatibility” and a gradual rejection of “EVM equivalence.”. Of the more practical benefits of the upgrade, there are significant reductions in transaction costs.

The “Bedrock” package was deployed in Goerli’s testnet back in the winter.. Already in April the work on the update was completed. But the official installation date on the main network did not appear until mid-May.”

It is interesting that a large volume of OP tokens were unlocked before the upgrade was rolled out.. In the run-up to this, the exchange rate “sagged”. After the successful completion of the update, the asset regained its position. It is now trading at a gain of 5% over the last 24 hours.
