The Frightening Reality of Artificial Intelligence and the Need for Regulation

  • Artificial intelligence has changed the course of history
  • And it’s very frightening to the famous philosopher

Famous philosopher and historian Yuval Noah Harari released an article in the British magazine The Economist. He devoted it to the threats of artificial intelligence.

Harari began by saying that fears of AI have haunted humanity since the beginning of the computer age. But now they have become real.

This is not a sci-fi action movie about a machine uprising, but a reality that is already with us. AI has acquired the ability to manipulate and self-generate content. That is, it tells stories itself.

“When people think of ChatGPT, they often cite the example of schoolchildren who write essays through AI. Forget about it.

Think about the next U.S. presidential race in 2024 and try to imagine the impact of AI tools that can generate political content, fake news and build a new cult.”

Fake news is not the only problem.

Harari fears that soon most of humanity will draw knowledge not from Google (which always offers at least a few sources of information), but from AI. Programs like ChatGPT will become something of an oracle.

“Why search when I can just ask an oracle? The information and advertising industries must be terrified.

Why read a newspaper when I can simply ask an oracle to tell me the latest news? And what’s the point of advertising when I can just ask the oracle to tell me what to buy?”

In summary, the philosopher suggests that we should stop the irresponsible development of AI and create regulation.

His article fits into the recent popular narrative that AI could be a big threat to us. Elon Musk and other technology industry experts have pointed out the dangers of this.
