Worldcoin will allow companies and governments to use its identity system

  • Most users join the project to get free tokens, Reuters reported.
  • A spokesman for Worldcoin developer Tools For Humanity said organizations will be able to pay the company to use their digital identity system.

Worldcoin plans to expand to attract more users worldwide. As part of the initiative, the firm intends to allow other organizations to use its technology, Reuters reported, citing Ricardo Maceira, senior manager for Europe at developer Tools For Humanity.

“Our goal is to create the biggest financial and identity community possible,” Maceira said.

He added that Worldcoin will continue to expand in markets in Europe, Latin America, Africa and all other parts of the world where “we will be accepted.”

A majority of people polled by Reuters in Britain, India and Japan said they were joining the project to get 25 free WLD tokens.

The senior manager for Europe at Tools For Humanity added that the company does not plan to generate total underlying revenue. Maceira said that if the firm can create an infrastructure that allows governments or other organizations to use their technology, they would be welcome.

He said organizations would be able to pay Worldcoin to use their digital identity system.

Regulators have expressed concerns about the company’s data collection. Particular attention is paid to exactly how the firm intends to use the data collected. The project’s website states that biometric data is either deleted or users can choose to store it in encrypted form.

Reminder, since its launch on July 24, the Worldcoin project has faced investigations in Germany, France, the U.K. and Kenya.
