CertiK Reports Over $103 Million in Cryptocurrency Stolen in April

CertiK, a cybersecurity and auditing firm, says more than $103 million was stolen from cryptocurrency projects during April as a result of hacking attacks.

CertiK specialists tweeted a report on exploits, fraud and hacks on cryptocurrency platforms. Since the beginning of the year, total user losses have been $429.7 million, but April has been particularly marred by major incidents.

At the very beginning of the month, for example, an attacker performed an attack on the Etherium blockchain, replacing normal MEV bot transactions with malicious ones, which allowed him to steal more than $25 million.

The Bitrue exchange’s hot wallet also suffered from hacking attacks, with $23 million worth of crypto-assets withdrawn, as did the South Korean exchange GDAC, whose losses totaled more than $13 million;

In addition, the past month was replete with quick credit attacks. DeFi Yearn.Finance suffered the largest losses – hackers embezzled nearly $11 million worth of crypto-assets.

The total amount of funds stolen as a result of cryptocurrency fraud reached $9.4 million in April. In this category CertiK analysts added the decentralized exchange Merlin with a loss of $2.7 million.

Previously, no vulnerabilities were identified in the exchange’s smart contracts. CertiK, however, said it was investigating the issue of private key management on the exchange.

CertiK has already warned that the activity of hackers and cryptocurrency fraudsters will not decrease in 2023, so the company’s specialists are monitoring new methods of attacks.
