Cryptodegents have created more than 50 “alien tokens” amid UFO rumors

Former U.S. government officials have claimed the existence of alien spaceships and “biological drugs”. Against this backdrop, more than 50 themed memcoins were created in 24 hours.

The U.S. Subcommittee on Homeland Security, Border and Foreign Affairs held a hearing on June 26 on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UFOs). As a result, more than 50 memcoins dedicated to aliens, UFOs and other space-related topics have appeared in the last 24 hours.

According to DexTools, a platform that allows traders to browse a wide range of unverified crypto assets with low market capitalization, cryptodegens have taken advantage of the information hype to launch “alien tokens” with tickers such as “ALIENX,” “UFO” and “ALIEN”. According to CoinGecko data, the UFO token has gained 2.4% in the past 24 hours, while ALIEN is up 5.9%.

Some in the crypto community have warned that the new memcoins could be a decoy to lure investors and capitalize on the hype around a hot news topic. Such memcoins use mechanisms that do not allow them to be resold once purchased.

“A 5.9% increase in value in 24 hours.. A great opportunity for people who want to lose their money fast. We should just invest in those shitcoins.. People will never learn anything,” — Reddit users commented on the event.

Earlier, former SEC official John Reed Stark warned cryptocurrency influencers that they will inevitably face lawsuits for promoting fraudulent projects.
