Apple will remove Damus app for supporting bitcoin tips

American Apple threatened the creators of the decentralized social network Damus mobile app with expulsion from the AppStore unless they remove the bitcoin tip feature.

The ultimatum is prompted by demands from U.S. officials as well as the site’s internal rules, the company explains.

In its statement, Apple stresses that Damus developers need to have time to update the app in 14 days. The new version must meet all the requirements of the AppStore Validation Guide, otherwise the program will be removed from the store. We are talking about a feature called Zaps, which uses the Lightning Network solution to transfer a small amount of bitcoin to a content creator.

“We noticed that your app allows users to send some sort of ‘tip’ for receiving content, with a mechanism that is different from standard in-app purchasing techniques. Although tips or donations are voluntary, they must use the shopping mechanisms in the applications, according to paragraph 3.1.1. in our Rules,” the Cupertino tech giant said.
