Reuters: SEC Sets Deadline for Updated Bitcoin ETF Applications

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has requested companies to make final adjustments to their applications for launching Bitcoin ETFs, with a deadline of December 29, 2023.

According to sources, SEC officials recently held meetings with representatives from at least seven companies aiming to launch Bitcoin ETFs as early as 2024.

SEC has advised two of these companies to submit updated applications by December 29, emphasizing that those failing to meet the deadline will not be included in the initial wave of spot ETF approvals, expected in early January.

Notably, among the companies involved in negotiations with the SEC were BlackRock, Grayscale Investments, ARK Investments, and 21 Shares. Representatives from potential trading exchanges such as Nasdaq and Cboe, along with the issuers’ legal teams, also attended these meetings.

Prior to this, the SEC and the companies had started discussions on the key technical aspects. A recent report from analytics firm K33 Research indicates that the approval of a Bitcoin ETF is “definitely on track” for January next year.
