NYSC certificates are among the most sought after in Nigeria. It is a compulsory one-year additional training program for young university graduates. However, many don’t graduate.. At the same time, having such a certificate is mandatory for work in some organizations, including government agencies. Forgeries of such documents are therefore increasingly common.
As NITDA director Yusuf Kashafu told NITDA, blockchain is a great way to combat certificate forgery. A top agency executive has already reached out to NYSC director Yusha Ahmed to discuss developing a blockchain-based verification system:
“Using the power of blockchain, we will try to create a secure, tamper-proof system that will allow citizens, institutions and employers to easily verify the authenticity of NYSC certificates.”
Back in May, the Nigerian government approved a digital transformation plan for the nation’s economy and called for the widespread adoption of blockchain technology.
