A resident of Buryatia lost 1.8 million rubles while trying to make money on cryptocurrencies

Yet another instance of fraud has taken place in Buryatia, as a resident of the Kabansky district fell victim to scammers while attempting to profit from cryptocurrencies, resulting in a loss of approximately 1.8 million rubles.

A 45-year-old man, well aware of the prevalence of fraud in this field, decided to take the risk due to his previous successful investment ventures.

In accordance with the “investment manager’s” instructions, the man downloaded and installed an application on his phone. With the assistance of a “personal trader,” he successfully earned a profit of 14,000 rubles after investing 281,000 rubles.

Encouraged by his initial profit, the victim decided to increase his investment and transferred over 1.5 million rubles to the scammers. Subsequently, the application ceased to function, and the “managers” disappeared from social media.

Currently, the law enforcement agencies in Buryatia are conducting an investigation into the case under Article 159, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud on an especially large scale”).

This incident follows a previous case in Norilsk, where a resident lost over 5 million rubles after trusting a familiar bank manager in an attempt to profit from cryptocurrencies.
