Apple may remove the Damus app

  • This will happen unless the app gets rid of the “zaps”
  • Remove this feature within 14 days

Technology giant Apple may remove Twitter’s alternative social networking app, Damus.. Damus chief developer William Kazarin said the zaps feature must be removed in order to keep the app in the App Store.

In Apple’s statement to Damus, it writes:

“To ensure the continued availability of your app in the App Store, we ask that you provide an update within 14 days of receiving this notice. Failure to update will result in your app being removed from sale.”

Apple’s warning is regarding the “zaps” feature, which allows customers to earn BTC from in-app messages. In a statement, the company wrote that it noticed the problem:

“We found that your app allows users to send “tips” associated with receiving digital content from creators. The problem, however, is that receiving a tip is done through a different mechanism than the in-app purchase. And while these donations may be voluntary, if they are related to or associated with the receipt of digital content, they must be made through in-app purchases, consistent with guideline 3.1.1.”

In response to Apple’s statement, Damus responded. that it does not sell any digital goods, much less provide features to sell them. William Kazarin said that the app simply has a button to facilitate p2p transactions.

The Damus app appeared on the App Store in early February 2023, and two days later it was blocked in China.
