Hackers leaked over 100,000 ChatGPT accounts to the darknet

  • They stole them with the Raccoon Infostealer virus
  • This software can also steal crypto-purse data
  • So experts advise reassurance

More than 100,000 ChatGPT bot login accounts have been shared with the darknet. Cyber-security analysts from Group-IB report this.

Experts found that the hack was carried out through phishing software Raccoon Infostealer.. Users downloaded it themselves by clicking on an unknown link from an email.

The Raccoon virus steals not only account login information but also a number of other pieces of information (cookies, history, etc).. Group-IB does not exclude the possibility that hackers could have gained access to cryptocurrency wallets as well.

The thefts of ChatGPT accounts began last summer, but peaked in May 2023. Hackers stole data from 26,802 accounts last month.

“This type of malware infects as many computers as possible through phishing or other means to collect as much data as possible.”

The Group-IB report indicates that most of the stolen accounts belong to users from the Asia-Pacific region.. Experts recommend that readers update their passwords and enable two-factor authentication. And, of course, do not click on any third-party links.

Remind that yesterday Atomic Wallet published a report on the hack that took place back in early June. The team admitted that they could not yet determine the cause of the attack. But it affected no more than 0.1% of users.
