MIPT launches Russia’s first blockchain postgraduate program

The Blockchain Department of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) is opening enrollment for the state postgraduate program on distributed ledger technology (DLT).

This initiative will be implemented in collaboration with the Idea Science Center. It will be the first public training program in the country and will be entirely dedicated to blockchain. The main reason for its launch was the growing interest of Russian businessmen in this industry, as well as the need for highly qualified industry specialists.

The students themselves are also interested in getting into this postgraduate program, as they intend to develop a career specifically in the field of blockchain. This was revealed by Vladimir Gorgadze, chair of Blockchain, who is also co-founder of digital asset platform Atomyze and IT company Newity.

“Students will engage in research and solve complex blockchain applications that combine math, computer science, economics and even sociology. Our graduate school will train such specialists who will be able to conduct complex research and solve practical problems,” Gorgadze said.

Director of the Fiztech School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of MIPT Andrei Raigorodsky is confident that young scientists will be able to develop developments in the field of distributed registry and participate in international government projects.

MIPT began training personnel for the blockchain industry several years ago. In 2019, in cooperation with Nornickel, the institute launched Russia’s first two-year master’s program in blockchain in 2019. The 2021 graduates have already received their diplomas. Gorgadze noted that during the time this chair has been in existence, annual enrollment in the program has been increased from 5 to 20 individuals. Partnerships are also being made with companies using blockchain technology.

Last year, MIPT Blockchain Master’s graduates received their diplomas in the form of non-replaceable tokens (NFTs), and in September 2022, MIPT issued an anniversary coin in NFT format to celebrate its 75th anniversary.
