StarkWare’s Roadmap for Improving Performance and Decentralization

  • The focus is on performance and UX
  • Outcoming this quarter is update 0.12.0, designed to improve throughput
  • Next year, the focus will shift to decentralization

The interaction experience (UX) and performance are the main aspects that the StakWare team will focus on this year.. This is stated in the new Starknet project roadmap.

“We are committed to giving the community the transparency it needs, so we decided to publish the roadmap as soon as possible. But it also means that our plans may change in the future,” StarkWare says.

Regenesis

This year’s major update to Starknet. The event focuses solely on Cairo 0 contracts and is needed to move them to Cairo 1.0.

Regenesis is the latest critical change planned by StarkWare. After that, the decision to deploy a particular upgrade will be made by consensus.

When exactly the upgrade will take place is unknown.. But that will most likely happen by the end of the year.

A rough timeline

This is a list of timelines for major changes to the network:

StarkWare’s top priority in the coming months is to improve network performance. This is necessary to keep the blockchain stable in an online growth environment.

Such as Starknet v0.12.0 will include significant changes to improve throughput and reduce latency.

This particular upgrade involves switching to a Rust-based sequencer and Rust-Cairo virtual machine.

In version 0.13.0, transaction costs will be significantly reduced. Volition will allow developers to build Starknet applications with hybrid data availability (DA).

Details on this toolkit will appear later. EIP-4844 Ethereum integration is expected in Q4.

By the end of the year, the developers’ focus will shift to the commission market and blockchain intervals.

In the first case participants will be able to speed up the transaction by “paying extra” for it. This will be introduced in v0.14.0.

After v0.15.0 Starknet will switch to constant and shorter block spacing. The block to proof ratio will be changed to 1:1.

This innovation is intended to improve the user experience. Not only will this focus be on creating new products, but also on decision-making.
