  • This is part of a new IRS-CI program
  • It launches next month

The IRS Investigations Division (CI) is introducing a cybercrime pilot program in June. They will send their representatives (cyber-attaches) to four continents.

These specialists will fight tax and financial crimes in the areas of cryptocurrencies, mixers and DeFi.

So cyber attaches will go to Sydney, Singapore, Bogota and Frankfurt.

“Working with colleagues from other countries, IRS-CI will strengthen international cooperation and global efforts to combat cybercrime.”

CI currently has one cyber attache working at Europol headquarters in The Hague. This post, was created in 2020 to develop partnerships with European detectives.

New representatives in Sydney, Singapore, Bogota and Frankfurt will make it easier for authorities around the world to coordinate and share information.

IRS regularly helps friendly countries track or disrupt cryptocurrency crimes.

But just recently they provided training for Ukrainian detectives. American experts told how to track and block Russian cryptocurrencies.

The Ukrainian crypto-program was also attended by Chainalysis experts. Both companies jointly purchased and delivered blockchain analysis tools for our authorities – 15 licenses for Chainalysis Reactor.
